To spread the news about HOT SHAVE, in this By a Whisker Series we interview a men’s grooming expert on how they shave their own faces and their observations on the device.
DAVID REID SHAVING PROFILE Style: Clean shaven around goatee |
Los Angeles-based hairdresser, grooming expert and educator David Reid was skeptical that HOT SHAVE could clear his face. He needn’t have worried.
“I have a very curly beard with a tendency to get ingrown hairs. To prevent these, what I do is to shave downward in a single direction which works for me. Normal electric shavers that work in multiple directions tend to make ingrowns much worse so I’ve always avoided them.”
David was surprised that HOT SHAVE worked in multiple directions but still kept his face clear of ingrowns. He also enjoyed the instrument’s intuitive maneuverability and how smoothly it shaves dense tricky areas on the jowls and neck with no grabbing, punching, or irritation.
“To be honest,” he says, “I still get the very closest shave from my safety razor, with HOT SHAVE a close runner up. When beards go grey, the hair texture changes, usually to something straight, wirey and bristly. (Hair also starts growing out of the nose and ears which nobody likes.) I have a little grey in my beard and even if the rest of my face stays pretty clear after a shave, within a day little sparkly bits poke out catch the light after a day. If it’s not a regular shaving day, I can run the HOT SHAVE over my face and it clears it really, really really quickly. I’ll definitely be using it regularly for touch-ups..”
HOT SHAVE is a USB-powered electric shaver developed and manufactured by skincare tools and product formula maker Ya-Man Ltd. in Japan. In addition to delivering a clean, close shave, it also conditions the skin.
“I have a little grey in my beard and even if the rest of my face stays pretty clear after a shave, within a day little sparkly bits grow back fast and poke out catch the light. If it’s not a regular shaving day, I can run the HOT SHAVE over my face and it clears it really, really quickly.”
